READING FOOTBALL CLUB

Reading FC is one of the oldest football clubs in Britain, being founded in 1871.

After 135 years of trying, the club finally made it to the top league in England, the Premiership, after a magnificent 2005/06 season in which the Championship was won with a record points total of 106, the club losing only two games all season, one of those a fluke on the first day. For its first 23 years the club played mainly friendly and cup matches until becoming founder-members of the old Southern League in 1894, becoming professional the next year. After moving to various grounds in the area, the club settled at Elm Park on the west side of Reading, which, in its heyday, was rated the best outside the First Division. In 1998 the club moved to its present home, the magnificent 24,200 all-seat Madejski Stadium, which will be extended if and when the club regains its Premiership status, lost so unluckily in 2007/08.

South Reading off A33 Relief Road just north of M4 Junction 11.
