24/04/2012 to 28/04/2012 LOVE ON THE TRACKS THE WATERMILL - WEST BERKSHIRE PLAYHOUSE, NEWBURY On a summer’s evening in 1890, a train pulls out of Moscow station. On board sit three fretful passengers, each with an extraordinary tale to tell. As their stories are played out in a series of delightful comic vignettes, the drama in the carriage tantalisingly unfolds. Love on the Tracks is a romantic comedy inspired by the early stories and farces of Anton Chekhov. Full of light-hearted humour and wonderfully eccentric characters, Love on the Tracks presents a 19th century world of dysfunctional marriage, traumatic romance and rampant infidelity - in a very modern way! 12/05/2012 to 03/06/2012 CONTEXT - AN EXHIBITION OF PAINTINGS BY CHRIS STEVENS
READING-based art organisations, roves and roams and Jelly, are working together to produce "Context", a town-wide exhibition of work by Chris Stevens. The London artist, who graduated from Reading University in 1978, has since exhibited internationally and was awarded the BP Portrait Award from the National Portrait Gallery in the ‘90’s. Stevens says of his work: “I always use figures in my paintings. I use them to challenge the preconceptions we have about people due to media stereotyping. The paintings are concerned with identity, class, race, gender and the environment. This narrative is an essential element in my work”. The notion behind Context is to support the use of alternative creative space in order to reach new audiences and reconceptualise the ways we experience public art. Between Saturday 12th May and Saturday 3rd June, the paintings will be on show at various spots around Reading town centre with locations including windows in Broad Street Mall and the Oracle. Various in Reading Town Centre

16/05/2012 HISTORY PIN TASTER SESSION
Reading was at the centre of early developments in photography and was one of the first places to be recorded by photography. William Henry Fox Talbot, a pioneer of photography, set up one of the world’s first commercial photographic studios in Reading in 1844. So it's appropriate that Reading Museum is running a HistoryPin project, which matches old-style photographs with the modern day equivalent. 19/05/2012 LOCAL AUTHOR SHOWCASE
Reading Libraries are delighted to be showcasing three local authors who will be talking about their work. Tom Fort’s latest book The A303: Highway to the Sun is published this month. Annie Murray hit The Times bestseller list with Birmingham Rose when it was published in 1995. She has subsequently written many other successful novels. Annie will be talking about her writing including her latest book My Daughter, My Mother. Chris Rhodes is based in Caversham. 19/05/2012 LEGENDS MATCH - EX-WYCOMBE X1 v EX-READING X1
IF you're missing your football already, and you need a quick fix, then head for Wycombe's Adams Park tomorrow (Saturday), where the clock turns back with a star-studded Legends match between the Royals and the Chairboys. It's to mark the start of Wycombe's 125th anniversary celebrations, but a glance at the two line-ups indicates that this will be much more than a jokey kick-about between a couple of dozen old fogeys. Royals Legends organiser George Friel has put together a squad which, if this were their heyday, would be a match for any championship team. Several Royal names from the great near-miss side of 1994-95 will be on parade, including skipper Ady Williams, Mick Gooding, Michael Gilkes and Simon Osborn. Others who will be wearing the famous hoops again include Barry Hunter, Martyn Williams, Kevin Watson, Jamie Cureton, Stuart Gray, Tom Jones, Stuart Beavon snr and Neville Roach. The ex-Wycombe X1 will be led by Keith Scott, who also played 35 games for Reading between 1999 and 2001 - and it also includes another ex-Royal, Paul Bodin. Adams Park, High Wycombe

24/05/2012 GET YOUR QUIZ ON THIS DEMENTIA AWARENESS WEEK AND HELP RAISE VITAL FUNDS
Alzheimer’s Society is encouraging people to get talking about dementia this Dementia Awareness Week™ (20 – 26 May 2012). People are invited to attend a quiz night on Thursday 24th May at Déjà vu, Reading from 7pm. Teams of 6 can enter for just £5 a head, which includes a finger buffet and a pop at the prize - £60 of Oracle vouchers donated by Henry Green Plumbers, a meal and a show for two at The Mill at Sonning, and dinner for four at Nandos. Sian Day, Community Fundraiser at Alzheimer’s Society says: ‘We are so grateful to Déjà Vu and everyone who has been so kind as to donate prizes and their time to help make the evening a success. We hope lots of people will join us this Dementia Awareness Week™. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing, and it’s not just about losing your memory. It is thanks to our volunteers organising events like these that we are able to continue our vital work; supporting people to live well with dementia.” Alzheimer’s Society is also hoping that local businesses and individuals will hold their own fundraising events between 20 – 26 May 2012 to raise valuable funds for people with dementia and their carers. There are over 800,000 people in the UK living with nearly 9,000 in Berkshire alone. To show your support and enter a team, email alzsocrdg@gmail.com or call 07854 193848. Dementia Awareness Week 2012 is sponsored by Saga Homecare. Together Alzheimer’s Society and Saga Homecare hope to maximise awareness and understanding of dementia across the UK. Deja Vu, 60-61 St Marys Butts, RG1 2LG

25/05/2012 A FRIDAY NIGHT TO REMEMBER ROBIN FRIDAY READING MUSEUM DESPITE a notable lack of success, Reading had a fair sprinkling of talented players during the mid-1970s. None, however, could match the legendary Robin Friday for outrageous talent - and outrageous behaviour on and off the field. Now Reading Museum, as part of its ongoing "Bikes, Balls and Biscuitmen" sporting exhibition, is to hold a Robin Friday special night of nostalgia tonight (Friday). It will feature a talk by Roger Titford, author of "The Legend of Robin Friday" and discussion and questions with Tommy Youlden and Gordon Cumming, once team-mates of Robin's. There will be photos, film clips, reminiscences and, of course, a bar. Reading Museum & Town Hall, Reading RG1 1QH
