17/06/2012 to 23/06/2012 READING BIKE WEEK
Reading Cycle Campaign was formed late 1982, the group was originally called Reading Cycling Action Group. Founding members were John Booth, Simon Watkins, Steve Thames and John Rigby. We have the County Surveyor and Simon Watkins to thank for the Campaign's take-off. The former launched his plan to complete the Inner Distribution Road and there were no obvious, signs of any provision for cyclists. We all thought this was terrible, but it was Simon who argued that it was time to hit the streets. We gave notice of a demo to be held on 25 June 1983 with a ride around part of the proposed IDR and a symbolic push up the Station Road bus lane (made legally shared in 1987). People arrived in swarms and by the time we arrived in the town centre there were 100 cyclists. Bike Week comprises a variety of events to raise awareness of the benefits of cycling. 24/06/2012 ENGLAND v ITALY - BIG-SCREEN TV AT DOGMA! DOGMA Now it gets interesting! England, possibly against expectations, into the quarter finals of Euro 2012, and a teasing test against Italy. The treams appear to be very well-matched, so it could come down to who can produce a little bit of decisive magic - maybe Wayne Rooney for England or Mario Balotelli for Italy. Watch it in comfort on the screens at Dogma! 11 Castle Street, Reading RG1 7SB

25/06/2012 to 28/06/2012 A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM - Queen Anne's Junior School Drama Production Queen Anne's School Assuming we have nice weather, the performances will take place in exactly the same fairy tale setting within the grounds that this marvellous work was performed in nearly a century ago (1919). Head of History Mr Talbot’s book “The Scarlet Runners” tells us how Peggy Webster, who played Puck, went on to become a professional actress and that she hoped “to come back and see on the front lawn at QAS the very tree I climbed as Puck a hundred years ago”. We wonder if she’s watching us up there now somewhere in the sky. And, if she is, what will she make of the madness, mayhem and merriment that our girls get up to throughout our special production. One word of warning: keep an eye out for low-flying bread rolls towards the end of the show! 6 Henley Road, Caversham, Reading RG4 6DX

25/06/2012 THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE VISIT TO HENLEY
MANY events were held locally for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, but people in the Thames Valley will have only one opportunity to see Her Majesty in person during her UK Jubilee Tour, and that's today (Monday) in Henley-on-Thames. Between March 8th and July 25th Her Majesty will have visited 50 towns, cities and counties, and her visit to Henley comes two days before the start of the annual Henley Royal Regatta. It is also the only place on the tour list within 40 miles of Reading. Rather bizarrely, neither Henley Town Council nor the official website of the Town Centre and Riversides, Henley-on-Thames

27/06/2012 to 01/07/2012 HENLEY ROYAL REGATTA
A TOTAL of 133 overseas crews have entered this year's Henley Royal Regatta - seven better than the previous best for the event. Amongst those, there are 21 overseas nations represented, with a total of 499 crews entered - 13 up on last year. The quality of the elite entries is slightly confused by the Olympics. All the crews who have qualified for the London games will be away at their respective training camps, but those who missed out - among them Americans, Danes, Norwegians and South Africans - will be at Henley. Joining them will be crews from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Germany preparing for the World Under-23 Championships in Lithuania in mid-July. There are also lightweight crews from Italy and Holland preparing for the World Championships in Bulgaria in August. The quality of the crews wanting to enter the Remenham Cup, the top event for women’s eights, prompted an increase in the number of crews racing in the regatta from eight to 10. The event runs from Wednesday to Sunday. River Thames, Remenham to Henley town

30/06/2012 SUMMER CONCERT IN CAVERSHAM
This is part of an exciting new series of concerts bringing first-class professional musicians from some of the country’s top orchestras, ensembles and conservatoires to your doorstep. The venture began when, in July 2010, St Andrew’s Church bought a newly re-conditioned August Förster grand-piano. This purchase fitted in well with their vision to use the church and church halls for artistic endeavours such as art exhibitions, a film club and a café – the Fisherman café, to give something to the whole community both locally and, as word spreads, further afield too. The church is a perfect setting for small scale chamber concerts, with a warm acoustic and seating for up to two hundred - a beautiful space in which everyone can enjoy listening to wonderful chamber-music and then relax afterwards with a glass of wine and delicious nibbles. This concert features Tom Poster (Piano), Anna Blackmur (Violin) and Verity Evanson ('Cello) - a varied programme of piano trios and solos. The concert starts at 7pm and runs without an interval to finish at about 8.45pm so that the audience can stay and enjoy the refreshments which are included in the £12 ticket price (bar the wine!), and chat to the musicians afterwards. St Andrew's Church, Albert Road, Caversham RG4 7PL

19/07/2012 to 21/07/2012 READING REAL ALE AND JAZZ FESTIVAL 2012
Reading Real Ale and Jazz Festival are very proud to be supporting Reading Hockey Club who will be cheering on 9 of their members who are representing GB in the 2012 Olympic Games. This is more than any other Hockey Club in the UK. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the festival which is the primary fund raising event for the club. As like every other year it is organised and run by volunteers. All the money raised will go to help with initiatives such as maintaining their water based pitch, plans for two new pitches and supporting their Olympians & Colts development programmes. Despite the lack of a British summer, Reading is showing its great support for the Reading Real Ale and Jazz Festival with tickets sales already exceeding 2012. Come rain or shine festival goers will be guaranteed a swinging time as this is one of the only festivals locally that is fully undercover offering visitors a dry night of great ale and great music. Visitors also don’t need to worry about driving as it is only a short walk from Reading train station. For those bringing cars there is ample parking which doesn’t involved being towed by a tractor! Christchurch Meadows, Caversham
