This display curated by Dr Rob Hosfield of the University of Reading’s Archaeology Department and Dr James Cole of the University of Brighton’s School of Environment & Technology will introduce our earliest ancestors and show how they survived in ‘Ice Age’ Europe. It will include casts of skulls, tools, and video footage reconstructing how those tools might have been used. Linked to a wider project on the earliest humans and the climatic challenges they faced, run by Dr Hosfield and Dr Cole and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Look out for the related talk and flintknapping activity!

17/11/2017 to 31/12/2017 APRÈS - THE WINTER BAR AT STATION HILL

For the third year the outdoor ski lodge bar will be back in Reading over the festive period. Gunter, head ski instructor/chief cocktail tester, and his team will be serving Mulled Wine, Frosty pints of Beer and their signature Winter Cocktails. Last year the bar moved to Station Hill, a move that WePop, the company behind the Après Bar, were extremely excited about. Their excitement was well-founded! A huge attraction to the Après Bar is their cosy mini chalets. Each one seats up to 10 people and is decorated with festive décor and blankets - and this year there’s a larger chalet as well, along with a marquee area with heaters. It’s a great spot to stop by for a swift drink during the festive period and it is also perfect for Christmas Parties. From reserving a small seated area or a chalet for a group, to hiring a section of the venue for your entire company.

01/12/2017 to 24/12/2017 HENLEY LIVING ADVENT CALENDAR

The Henley Living Advent Calendar is based on an original idea from Stockholm and began here in 2011. One of the first events of it's kind in the UK, and certainly the first locally, it runs every evening from December 1st to 24th. Like a children’s Advent Calendar, a different window or door is opened at 6:15pm promptly each evening and a 30 minute performance is given to the audience assembled. This can include songs, carols, music, poetry, book excerpts, notes from local history or folklore, sketches, dance etc, all with a Christmas or winter focus to them. Each Venue is matched, by the Organising Committee, with a local performer or group of performers and a collection is made, and Raffle tickets sold, every evening for selected local Charities.
