12/05/2019 to 14/07/2019 AN EARTHLY PARADISE - WILLIAM MORRIS AND THE THAMES

This new exhibition illustrates the rich and little-known story of William Morris’ deep connections to the Thames. We bring together a unique selection of works, with loans from the V&A, The William Morris Gallery, British Library, and many more. Highlights include Morris’ Thames series of textiles alongside his original hand-drawn designs, a signed copy of News from Nowhere, and his personal fishing tackle and spectacles. Materials from the Morris & Co. workshop illustrate the production process, while socialist pamphlets that Morris penned and published demonstrate his deep commitment to socialism in later life. The influence of the Thames and its tributaries flowed through William Morris’ life and work. The river provided the setting for his leisure time spent angling and boating, inspiration for his designs and writing, and the ideal water conditions for the manufacture of his textiles. One notable Thames boat trip from his London home via Henley to his rural retreat in Oxfordshire was so moving that it inspired his socialist utopia novel, News from Nowhere.

Visit Sally Courage, Teresa Munn and Moya Tosh, local ceramic artists, united by a love of landscapes and the organic feel of clay. Guest artists include Julie Massie, Christine Lack and John Brazendale. Sally works with coils of clay to create satisfying forms which evolve as the work grows. Teresa works with text in ceramics, and explores feelings associated with the landscapes of our lives in clay-scripted wall plaques and hand-held textured forms. Moya throws porcelain and uses blocks of glaze colour, 23-carat gold leaf, silver leaf and lustre colour for decoration. Red Steps is a working studio, and one of the three will always be working there and able to discuss their latest work. Major pieces and small gift items available - or just come and enjoy chatting and looking.

The villains plot to involve her, unwittingly, in Marcus’ brilliantly conceived heist job. The police are left stumped but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse and Marcus concludes that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs Wilberforce is alone with five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music?

26/07/2019 to 27/07/2019 LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD
 ARLINGTON ARTS, NEWBURY

Once upon a time, a young, spirited girl called Little Red Riding Hood set off deep into the woods to visit her sick Grandma. She promises her mother not to stray from the main path, but disobeys – tempted by the chance to meet up with her friends & explore. Unfortunately, she also meets up with a Very Hungry Wolf who has other ideas… This is the story of Little Red’s adventures told in dance, mime & narration. The tale of a lucky escape and the perils of taking risks! The Bryett School of Dance is a local Hampshire based dance school providing theatrical education for children & adults. We are delighted to honour this ancient tale in our school production this year which still delights and fascinates young people today. (Last show before the summer break).

27/07/2019 DET ANDRE TEATRET - THROWAWAY!
 SOUTH STREET ARTS CENTRE, READING

A show based on what you don’t need anymore. That old vase you got from your aunt years ago, your ex’s worn-out t-shirt or last week’s newspaper - they’re all going to be thrown away sooner or later. Why not do it at our show - and we’ll tell a story from it. Puppetry, storytelling and classical theatre blend in this improvised show based on stuff the audience members bring that they’d rather just throw away.
