The images featured in this exhibition have all sought to experiment with the viewpoint in order to present us with new and unexpected perspectives. VIEWPOINT is a touring photographic exhibition created and supported by The Photographic Angle. Please check website prior to attendance for latest information as dates may be subject to change. 15/11/2019 DILLIE KEANE - SONGS OF LOVE AND OTHER BAD IDEAS
 CORN EXCHANGE, NEWBURY

After some gardening leave, Dillie is back where she belongs - on a cabaret stage, accompanied by the marvellous Michael Roulston. Her take on life and love is cheerfully sour, gently savage and peculiarly mordant - but the beautiful music softens the effect. She freely admits she has a voice like a dying crow being crushed beneath an angry sheep, but that's ever stopped her. In fact, she will be singing some perfectly wonderful songs by other songwriters which she recently discovered in New York. As well as a raft of her own songs too, of course. A delightful evening.

15/11/2019 ALAN CLAYSON AND THE ARGONAUTS
 RISING SUN ARTS CENTRE

There are folk around today who'll tell you the legendary ALAN CLAYSON AND THE ARGONAUTS were and are the greatest group ever formed – not least for a stage act that still defies succinct description four decades after they were thrust swiftly to 'a premier position on rock's Lunatic Fringe' (Melody Maker). Moreover, a latest album, This Cannot Go… - and new single, ‘Sol Nova’ - might stand as an artistic apotheosis were it not for the promise of surprises yet to come – and correlated press coverage contained the telling sentence, ‘Somewhere there is a parallel universe where they are bigger than The Beatles!’

16/11/2019 to 05/01/2020 APRÈS - READING'S MOST POPULAR CHRISTMAS BAR

For the fifth year the outdoor ski lodge bar will be back in Reading over the festive period. Gunter, head ski instructor/chief cocktail tester, and his team will be serving Mulled Wine, Frosty pints of Beer and their signature Winter Cocktails. Two years ago the bar moved to Station Hill, however that site is currently being redeveloped, and is unavailable in 2019, so the bar has moved back to its original home beside the ice rink in Forbury Gardens. A huge attraction to the Après Bar is their cosy mini chalets. Each one seats up to 10 people and is decorated with festive décor and blankets - and this year there’s a larger chalet as well, along with a marquee area with heaters. It’s a great spot to stop by for a swift drink during the festive period and it is also perfect for Christmas Parties. From reserving a small seated area or a chalet for a group, to hiring a section of the venue for your entire company.

16/11/2019 to 20/11/2019 THE FOUR ELEMENTS - PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

This theme offers fresh insights into one or more of the four elements, earth, air, fire and water. The Elizabethans believed that all matter was composed of just these 4 elements. The universality of this theme reflects the worldwide distribution of our photographers and the range of locations which have provided inspiration for these striking images.THE 4 ELEMENTS is a touring photographic exhibition created and supported by The Photographic Angle. 17/11/2019 HENLEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
 THE CONCERT HALL, READING

Henley Symphony Orchestra opens its 50th anniversary season with two iconic masterpieces. Dvořák’s richly expressive Cello Concerto, written whilst he was living in New York, is imbued with a sense of longing for his Czech homeland. Adrian Brendel is one of the most versatile and original cellists of his generation. Raised in the great central European tradition of music making, Adrian is a fitting soloist for this passionate concerto. The intensity of Tchaikovsky’s powerful but melodic Fourth Symphony, written at a time of personal turmoil, is heightened by a recurring ‘fate theme’, heard in the opening fanfare and again in the surging conclusion.

23/11/2019 BASINGSTOKE CHORAL SOCIETY - HAYDN, THE CREATION
 ANVIL ARTS, BASINGSTOKE

Haydn witnessed many radical changes in music during the course of his long life. He was eighteen when Bach died in 1750, just as the Baroque era was coming to its end, and over 70 when Beethoven’s Eroica symphony saw its premiere in 1804, ushering in the Romantic period. Throughout all the changes Haydn remained a pioneering figure, experimenting and surprising audiences right up to the end of his life. It is believed that Haydn was inspired to write this large scale oratorio during his visits to England in 1790's, when frequent performances of Handel’s Messiah could regularly be heard.

23/11/2019 MILTON JONES IN MILTON - IMPOSSIBLE!
 CORN EXCHANGE, NEWBURY

One man. One Mission. Is it possible? No, not really. Milton reveals the truth about being an international spy, before being given a disappointing new identity which forced him to appear on Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo. But this is also a love story with the twist, or at least a really bad sprain. Just gloriously daft nonsense or is there a deeper meaning? Every man has his price. Sainsburys, where good food costs less.

27/11/2019 LECTURE: DOING BUSINESS BETTER - SHOULD READING FIRMS HAVE A SOCIAL PURPOSE
 UNIVERSITY OF READING

Business delivers society’s wants and needs: from goods and services, to wealth creation and employment. But businesses also enjoy a range of benefits from society: access to an educated workforce; reliable transport links; and the protections of the legal system. This lecture will explore the nature of this complex relationship between business and society from the perspective of what is called ‘social contract theory’ in philosophy.Using evidence from her own research, Professor Emma Borg will ask what a ‘social purpose’ is, and whether companies should specify and fulfil such a purpose to earn their place in society. She will explain how ethical business behaviour can result in happier, healthier and more productive employees, greater loyalty from customers and suppliers and ultimately boost a company’s bottom line.Emma Borg is a Professor of Philosophy and leads the University of Reading’s Centre for Cognition Research. She specialises in the philosophy of language and the mind, and the study of the relationship between business and society.Admission free. Booking advisable.

Everything is sold direct from our local farmers, bakers, conservers and brewers, have a chat and discover the story behind the produce! The market is held undercover, in the auction house at the Cattle Market. There is cheap parking (on street, or in the Cattle Market car park next door - 50p for 1hr, £2.60 for 2 hrs) and it’s a short walk to town. The producers below typically attend the market, but attendance does vary, due to seasonality of produce. 08/12/2019 LIVE MUSIC - PICTISH TRAIL
 SOUTH STREET ARTS CENTRE, READING

Throughout his career Pictish Trail – aka Johnny Lynch – has resolutely furrowed his own path, steadily creating a unique catalogue of recordings and performances through his own labels (Lost Map / Fence Records) while eschewing the blueprint of the predictable singer-songwriter in favour of something untidily intriguing. Born out of a compulsion to make infectious, melody driven music from a treasure trove of secret sounds, Pictish Trail’s spectral songs are filtered through a sun-warped pop lens, where heart-pumping guitar shriek-outs collide with sampled gurgles and fractured lyrics figure-skate over sine-waves of glacial synth.
